Paraplegic, Amputee, Congenital disability or even able-bodied? The club is desperately seeking new members to join the club for this coming season. We are looking to recruit any athletes who have any lower limb disability, minimal disability, are an amputee or even able-bodied. Ideally we would like athletes who have some general sporting ability and a willingness to learn. New or novice players are most welcome and coaching will be provided by a fully qualified coach. If you are interested, just turn up at our training session or give our Secretary a ring for more details. The club trains on Tuesday evenings from 8.00 p.m. until 10.00 p.m. at Comberton Village College. The club has a number of club sports wheelchairs that can be made available to new members to try the game in. Secretary - Steve Spilka Tel: 01354 695560 |

The club is desperately looking for a local company to sponsor us this season. The club needs to raise in the region of £5,000 during the year to continue training and competing. If there are any businesses willing to help us, any sponsorship in excess of £1,000 can be doubled through the SportsMatch scheme, which will match fund any new sponsorship agreement for grass root development projects. Effectively, if we can find sponsorship for £2,500, this will allow us to raise the £5,000 necessary to keep the club running. The club is willing to work closely with a sponsor to maximise the profile of the company and its products both locally and nationally. There are numerous opportunities for a progressive company to work with the club to capitalise on the popularity and public familiarity of the most recognisable sport for people with a disability. If your company is interested in finding out more, please contact:- Steve

| The club finished the season off with a fine 61 - 49 win over Bucks Aces, to guarantee promotion to the 1st Division next season. A dreadful performance away against Aces earlier in the season had cost the Heat any chance of finishing the season as divisional champions. The match started in much the same manner as the away fixture, with Aces leading 12 - 5 at the end of the 1st Quarter. However, a much improved 2nd Quarter saw Heat reverse the situation and go into half time 23 - 19 ahead. The 2nd half was again dominated by Heat and we ran out comfortable winners. Jan Zimnicki was leading scorer for Heat with 27 points. Andy Hartwell 18, Ivan Newman 11 and Caroline Maclean 8 were the other scorers. | |||

Welcome to the updated
website of Hereward Heat Wheelchair Basketball Club. Thanks to
support from Awards for All Eastern, the club has sufficient funds to see
the current league season through.
A major event we have rapidly arriving on the horizon is hosting the team from SG Heidelberg Kirchheim e. V. at Easter, as part of the twinning arrangement between Cambridge and Heidelberg. Last season members of the club enjoyed a fantastic visit to their club in Heidelberg, so it is essential that we host an equally enjoyable event here in Cambridge. Any businesses or individuals willing to provide some funding to the club to help host the visit would be most welcome!! |
